The New Condition of Convergence : Between Science and Arts of an International Seminar Held
On February 23 (Fri), the New Condition of Convergence : Between Science and Arts' of an International Seminar hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT, Minister You Young -min) and organized by the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity (KOFAC, Acting President of KOFAC, Kang Ho-young) and the Seoul Museum of Art (SeMA, Director Choi Hyo-joon), was held for creating new insights and contact for the convergence of science and art.
In part 1, there was a presentation by Gerfried Stocker(Artistic Director of Lienz, Austria) and Lee Hyun-jin( Professor of Yonsei Graduate School of Communication) and Yu Won Jun(General Director of GAS 2016-2017). Gerfried Stocker(Artistic Director) were introduced the world Media Art Festival and the Future Lab which has been held annually since 1979, at ARS ELECTRONICA and “the convergence of science and art opens up the creativity of people who are looking for new ideas and creativity can be triggered by exchanging them through festivals” he said. Professor, Lee Hyun-jin and CEO, Yoo Won-joon expressed that it is meaningful for art to reflect on itself and to find a way to survive in the crisis of global capitalist society and the problem of human being alienated and destruction of nature in technical society, they introduced the case of the Getting Artistic Contents with Science(GAS) Project in Korea As well as the integration of science and art.
In the second part, the theme of 'What is the new condition of 2018 in the convergence of science and art?” and Shin Bo-seol(Head of a department and moderator of the Total Museum of contemporary art), and related panel Yeon Kyung-hwan(Seoul Museum of Art, curator) Bae Hyeong-jeong (Curator of GAS2016-2017) and So Su-bin, Yang Sok-hyun, Lee So-myung of GAS2016-2017 participated in a free discussion with the participants of the seminar. This seminar was designed to present new directions and possibilities in terms of the value of collaboration and convergence in an increasingly specialized and diversified society. More than 100 people from related fields, science and technology, university students and ordinary people participated.
